A guy at work pointed out that shotgun shells arent sealed as good as bullets... kinda makes sense
Whats the longest you would hold onto shotgun shells? |
| I shot some 23 year old buck shot last weekend that worked fine...Depends on the conditions, avoid excessive heat and humidity, avoid temperature fluctuations and you should fine for a long time. You can always keep them in a ammo can with a desiccant pack and they would probably outlast any of us.... |
| Mine does not stick around long enough to go bad. What I did however was used my vaccum sealer and put some 00, .308 and some .30 carbine in there and sucked all the air out. This stuff is in it's own place for a time I hope never comes. I was thinking that the idea is not a bad one for hunters who are camping or hunting in incliment weather. That seal a meal machine gets all the air out with it the moisture in the air. Ammo kept dry will go bang many years from now. |

One of the great things about the shooting sport is how indestructable ammo is. I've fired 20 year old ammo that's been kept in various garages, and it always goes bang.
Today I blasted some 12 ga trap loads that were in my garage when Ike flooded it out. I'm talking storm surge water, with salt water, crap (literally) and who knows what else mixed in. The brass cases are partailly corroded and ugly looking, and every one fired just fine. Cool and dry is best of course, but I don't think you can really kill ammo except with a firing pin. |
