If I want to use a Wingmaster barrel (with ball detent) on an Express model, what parts do I need to change?

Nothing to change.  the magzine cap on your express will simply push the detent ball in the barrel ring down and out of the way.   No problem.

This is correct - I'm currently running a 20" SP barrel on my 870 Express with no problem.

Hoodooman - What is the front sight on that barrel?  Is that the True-Glow rifle sight?  If it is, what do you think of it?

I think it is the Tru-Glow sight, they came on the barrel (75.00 Rem store special I heard about here.) It has the single red fiber optic on the front, with the two green dots on the rear. Visibility is good, but the red bead could have been a little bigger (my eyes aren't quite what they used to be...) I shot a nice gobbler with it last month, the sights worked well out in the heavy woods. They're not as quick as a ghost-ring setup, but plenty fast with some practice.

Now I just need to pick up an IC choke...

That was the question I had as at my age my eyes are catching up with the deteriation of my face and the Tritiums don't do anything in the low light of Michigan woods.  I will have to try one of these barrel.  Thanks for the input.

If you have the factory Express magazine cap, it doesn't have the outer ring of teeth for engaging the ball detent and the cap will work loose.  You need a Wingmaster or sling swivel type cap with the outer teeth.

Edit:  oops, nevermind I just realized you probably still have the Express plastic spring retainer.  GTG.

The Tru-Glows are very bright during the day, but I don't know at night. They do have tritium in them for that though. I've only seen them personally on some people's Glocks, but in the extremely sunny NorthWest FL they were very bright and easy to see.

Hey Gav- I run Trit beads on my HD but set up a Turkey gun and tried RS sights since I had a 20" with Rem Choke that of course would take an Extra Full Turkey choke.   Dang old eyes just ain't what they used to be so I am thinking the sight he listed is a good option.   I am sure they have them as inserts.   As for HD I don't really use sights, never have so getting old has not affect that type of shooting.  Another option is I still have a 21" VT RC and could put one of those true glows beads on that.   Heck, I will try both.

aippi - If you've got a 21" RemChoke VR barrel & are keen on busting some Turkies with it - Hi-Viz makes a clip-on magnetic sight that comes with multiple sizes & colors of fiber optic pipes. I used one last year on a 28" Remington VR barrel last year for turkey season - the triangle tipped pipe is bright under most light conditions. Give me a few minutes, and I'll post some pics.

Here's a view down the barrel (sorry about the poor focus on this one...)

Here's the whole set - it came with 1 set of magnets which use one of three different width bases & 4 different light pipes.

Here's the sights that are on my 20" barrel;
