I own a TLR i'd like to mount to my HD shotgun.  The shotgun in question is an 18" ventrib 870 with four round mag tube.  I'd like a pic rail that securely clamps on the barrel so i won't have to change the forend.  Anyone know of anything and where i could obtain it?  Thanks in advance.

Do you mean four round mag tube as in no extension or a 4 round extension?  If the latter, the Nordic clamp linked works great.  I've got one on my SPX, and it is the best clamp and rail I've ever used.

ETA:  If you're just looking for something to mount on the vent rib barrel with no extension, that may be difficult.  Most single tube clamps aren't made to fit a vent rib:  they are made for clean barrels or mag tubes.  Streamlight makes a mag tube clamp that fits between the mag tube cap and the foreend and is clamped down by the mag tube cap, but you would have a huge shadow because the light would be placed back so far from the muzzle.

It currently has the stock four round tube on it.  That nordic peice looks fantastic if i were running an extended mag, but $50 plus s and h seems relatively high.  CTD was the first place i glanced at (why?) and they had the aluminum UTG mounts that seem like they would work.  The durability of an aluminum peice is questionable to me.

I know you said you don't want to change the forend, but you should look at this....

Mako 3-Rail Forend

I was looking for some way to mount a TLR-1 to my Mossburg 500 also.  I purchased the Mako Forend and have been VERY pleased with it.  Solid.  Secure.  Easy to "install".  I have no regrets.

Just a suggestion.

though not exactly what im looking for radiocowboy thanks for the suggestion.  I was hoping to find a simple peice that would comin in at the $20-30 range.  How does the pump handle with the naked bottom rail?  should i plan on getting rail covers if i decide to go that route.

This is the rail mentioned by m24shooter a few posts up. I've had this on my 870 for about 50 rnds now. Can't completely speak for the durability yet, but it seems good to go so far. It can be mounted on either side, or bottom. I'm running a TLR as well and it's easy to activate the light, but as mentioned before, there is a little bit of shadow from the barrel. Not that bad, though. Best part is it was only $15, well under your price range.

looks pretty good, though im not thrilled with the polymer construction.  One of the reviews said it snapped off after about the same amount of rounds you put through your gun poopile.

There have been reports of people mounting them to the "bottom" position, running their hand into the light/mount, and it breaks then.  It's a nice mount (I use it) but I don't think it was ever engineered to sithstand that level of abuse.

FWIW, I run mine at the 9 o clock for easy thumb activation of the light.

I run one of those at 3 o'clock, and have a LOT of rounds downrange with no problems (I drilled a hole in it so the detent still locks up).  I'm not exactly known as being easy on equipment...

YMMV.

I use a Mesa Tactical barrel/mag clamp with a rail similar to the Nordic on both of my 870s' (1 marine mag, 1 police), however it is alot more (about $70 iirc) and the only functional diff is the Mesa tac has a qd mount for a sling & the nordic dosent (small diff and i dont even use this feature on mine) the reason i stayed away was a few of the  user reviews on midwayusa.com had some fitment issues with the mount, Im sure it would have worked fine but i liked the look of the mesa tac so i went that route. I have been happy with it so far and am running an offset larue light mount with a surefire E2Dled light (same light and mount at i have on my main AR to keep things familiar)

here is a pic of the clamp with the longer rail piece, a "stubby" rail is also available (its what i have on both my 870's)

eta: After looking at my Mesa tac clamps and the Nordic one up close I really like how much lower profile the Nordic clamp's rail sits compared to the Mesa. I would guess the Nordic one sets the rail 1/2" or more closer to the barrel than the Mesa Tactical. I may have to look into this for my next 870 build which will be a pistol

No rail covers needed.  The "rail" is only the front 2 or 3 inches of the forend.  Your hand will be well behind that.

Another vote for the Nordic with Picatinny rail.  Rock solid and nicely crafted.

i am totally confused as to what ur looking for because you have been shown nearly every manner of mag/barrel mount and if you followed all the leads given to you you would have found several more by now....
