| Where should I have my sling placed? On the side or the bottom of my 870? It's more of an HD shotgun I have here and I wanted to buy a Wilson combat mag extension. I don't know if i want to drill into the wood stock i got, but will if i have to. So what's preferred normally for HD/Fighting shotguns? |

If you are talking about the front sling attachment (on the WC tubes), the ones to the side are fine if you are not running a light that would hit it or make it hard to get to the switch. You can use a standard sling swivel where they normally are on rifles and shotguns (about 1" towards the muzzle from the butt). Or you could get a sling plate that attaches between the receiver and stock. GG&G makes one. |

I run a single point and I mount it just behind my right hand facing in. I made a universal type sling adapter that required no drilling. I have one and tried it. I took it off immediately, I did not care for the gap it left and it was unwieldy in my opinion. I prefer a standard sling, I use an Uncle Mike's removable sling stud screwed into the stock and sling attachment on my Vang Comp extension. I have also drilled and tapped a mag tube cap and have an Uncle Mike's on that also. My 2 cents, YMMV. |

I wanted to get the mag extension and just have it on the bottom and drill into the stock for the sling swivel, but i'd hate to do that to the stock. There are no advantages or disadvantages to any particular sling location then? Some people say you do not need a sling on a HD shotgun, but I like the option if I am at the range and want to sling it. Drilling the stock is no big deal, basic wood working. I have a small bench top drill press when I did mine. Leveled, squared, and plumbed (I love those three words Personally, I will always opt for a sling attachment on a long arm. Better to have the option and not use it than be at a class or event and wish you could sling it. My 2 cents, YMMV. |
