How about the new style? I like it because your arm is not so overextended out front. |

Quoted: It's a bit harder to do with a sport forend in my opinion.Quoted: Quoted: Why is ease of unloading important? It's easier and safer to unload the magazine tube via the same way the shells went in. You can only do this with the short forend though. I can do it with the sporting forend. |

Why is ease of unloading important? Administrative handling. such as cops who have to check out and load a shotgun at the start of each work day, then unload at ther end of shift and turn the shotgun and ammo back in. For a lone operator it doesnt really matter. Find a way that works for you and stick with it. But when you are talking about 2,000 cops administratively handling 870's every day the simplicity of leaving the foreend fully to the rear and using the shell stop to unload the gun limits the incidences of NDs and also extends the service life of the ammo. We get new ammo every year and after 12-months of repeated loading and unloading the rims get pretty beat up from just the shell stop. |

I can do it with the sporting forend. I would love to see of video of it sometime. I dont see how you can do it with the long forend fully to the rear during the entire manipulation like with the short/LE forend. |
| Unloading the gun is absolutely LAST on my list of priorities. More important, is the stock that allows me to have a better grip on the gun when I am pointing it or firing it. The new forend allows a grip where your supporting arm is not so over extended. The closer your elbows are to your body, the less fatigue you will feel. |

You don't have to do it the same way as with the LE forend. Example: Draw the forend back slowly, and before the shell is released from the magazine tube, use your thumb to push the shell lifter up and hold it up, bring the forend all the way back and catch the shell as it springs from the magazine. Stow round, rinse and repeat. |

I prefer the sporting forend because I have short arms.
It feels better to me, I shoot better with a sporting forend, I have no problem unloading with it, and most importantly..... I've never got my finger caught on the action bars whiling pumping the action with the sporting forend.

I hadn't even thought about it. I don't see what the problem is with the beavertail forend now. ![]() |

Its easily fixed by cutting off a little bit of material though. |

Its easily fixed by cutting off a little bit of material though. My very first 870 when I was in high school was an older Express gun that I mounted a SideSaddle on. I notched the handguard with a hacksaw to clear the SideSaddle. It worked. I ended up cutting the notch all the way around and making an ugly, press checked birch police length forend. |
