Well,  I finally got back my barrel from Mossberg, and the weather was nice.  I went off to wally world and grabbed a 100 round bulk pack of federal multipurpose crap.

Like I said this is going to be quick.   I loaded her up and shot a tube full nice and slow.  No issues,  Then took turns shooting some clay pigeons.  A little harder considering no choke and length, but did manage to break a few.

Put  some silhouettes up for fun.  And peppered the hell out of them with every type of burst you could think of.  Just to put it through its paces.  Loaded up some 0 and 00 buck and it ran fine.  Then back to the bird shot.  I hit about round 75 and it started to FTE, and stove piped a few.  Then some more FTE and that continued for the last 10 rounds.  I figured maybe it was dirty.

I got it home stripped it down and (excuse my layman terms for this)  were the exhaust gases are captured and expand the piston action out word,  there was a snap ring that was bent in about a 90* bend then just fell out on the floor.  So called Mossberg the guy new exactly what I was talking about and is sending a call tag for it.

I can say if this is a fluke thing with the ring then I will be very satisfied with the shotgun.

Anybody else have any issues with the rings?

I have a 930 with about 500 rounds through it (buckshot, slugs and birdshot).  Never heard if this issue before, and the ring in mine is still holding strong.  Just a fluke, I'm sure.

No, in fact Don Stalnecker (Instructor at FAS) and I shared a 930 SPX at LFI II and LFI III.  We each put 200 rounds of slugs through it and it only burped a couple of times when it was really dirty.  But, it burped after the 1100's gave out and the M-4's were also burping.  The M P's at Ft. Huachuca have the 930 SPX.

When I bought mine, and went through the obligatory barrel exchanges, they sent an extra piston with each one.  They said I could keep them, so now I have spares.

I have the extra piston but this piece that came off was one of the snap rings that are held in place by that red spring that is pressed into place.

Is the purpose of that red spring is to act like a seal to keep the gases going rearward toward the piston?
