This site would benefit by a "gun Smith Only" page. On this page the site would pre-approve "gun smiths" and Armorers" by verifying their Credentials and Certification. These would be the only members allowed to respond to questions posted on that thread and only answer for question on weapons they are certified to work on or on General Gun Smithing. For example: I am a Certified Remington Law Enforcement Armorer and wold only answer questions on the 870, 11-87 and 700. I am an Authorized Remington Parts Dealer and could answer Remington parts and Accessory question.
Questions would have to involve the repair of a weapon or installation of parts that are involved in the operation of the weapon. At present, you have guys responding to post and giving advise that not only risk damage to the weapon but can render the weapon unsafe. You have no way to know the qualification of the person. This new forum would provide a place for "Correct Answers" . When I answer a question I am liable for what I tell you to do to a Remington and all my answers take that in to consideration as I am Certified by Remington, owner a business that repairs these weapons and I have liability Insurance. There are hundreds of Clock, Sig, Colt, Remington, Mossberg and other Armorers out there. There are Gun Smiths on this site that have been working on weapons for many years. I am sure that several for each brand would participate and more in General Gun Smithing. Anyone can of course post their questions in general forums and any member respond, however, this new forum gives them expert advise. If you think this is a good idea then contact the owners of this site suggest this also. __________________ JD McGuire, Owner AI&P Tactical Remington Law Enforcement Armorer If you're going to a gun fight, take a shotgun. J.D.-
The moderators would probably point you to the recently added Gunsmithing forum. I think what you're looking for is an accreditation icon that shows up underneath your user name, like some of the guys who have the little guns under their name to denote they're NRA qualified firearms instructors. |

Mike, I see you are a moderator and thus although not intended , your comment would appear to some to be a dig on your part and an attempt to make me look like I am trying to get somthing for free. I know that was not your intent as you would have been professional enough to PM such a comment if that was you intent. However, since other may see it that way, I will reply to it. I don't need to advertize. I am a small shop with all the work I want. I certainly dont' want to get any bigger as I would then be like the other guys out there and just be another production line. No body touches one my builds once it leaves the blast cabinet. That makes me a true Customizer and not just another production line turning out guns. Call any of the others and ask to speak with the guy that built your weapon. Good luck, no telling how many guys did something to it. Since I am the only one touching the weapons I will keep it small, about 3 guns a week and a few rebuilds.
Since I am a small shop I am running at my max already and last year because of the run on Guns my "Pings" never left the house. Well not this year, I have to work on my game. I will never get that busy again. Also, this is not about the money as anyone who has done business with me can tell you that I talked them down and stopped them from putting a lot of mess on the weapon. Mess that would have made easy money for me. If you want the shotgun forum to be as great as the rifle forum you need some knowledgable people on here to reply and back up the some of the other guys who always have the right answers. You know who they are and I am sure they like the back up I provide. So, I am not interested in advertizing on the site but with your permission will continue to post answers. This site beats the others hand down for the best information on just about any type of weapon. Your doing a great job and I am please to be contributing when I can. |

MIKE. Is the site hurting for money? The top of the page looks like the Las Vegas strip already. GC |

SGB- That is my fault as that is not my signature line for this web site as I changed the one for this web site months ago when I was instructed to do so by Igor.. That is my signature for other web sites that do not have the same rules as this one. I posted the same thread on them first and simply copied and pasted the post on other sites and this one. So in this case it was my error and no intention to mention my business. I did not edit the copy before I pasted it on this post. My credentials and the fact I do this for a living are simply to give validity to my responses and help people cut through all the mess on this internet. For this reason I use them in my signature line when allowed.
And thanks for the very professionla IM Mike. You are absolutly correct. Now that all that mess is over. The original post is dead as it is on other sites as it was pointed out on those sites that it would be to much work for the owners. Verifing Certifications, training and monitoring of the forum would be over welleming. So the thread is dead........................well, not completly. Someone much smarter then us is going to come along and start a site that has professional armorers and gun smiths. You post a question and only they will respond. Kind of like a Web MD for guns........... Maybe one day. |

No. But if you are asking for support you should be willing to give support.
There are other ways to support the site than just giving hard earned dollars. Support is also participating in the site and sharing hard earned knowledge. Members join the AR15.com because there are many knowledgeable members. They don't join to look at the colorful ads. In turn companies pay to advertise because of the large number of members. Professionalism of the moderators and the knowledge of the members keeps people coming back. AIPPI is very knowledgeable in Remington firearms and is always answering questions. He don't have to spend his time at AR15.com and give his support. GC |

For what it's worth being able to communicate with guys like JD are why I continue to pay my membership......

AIPPI makes money selling 870 shotguns on gunbroker.com. Gunbroker makes money from those sales. Why should AR15 work for free. Except for Moderators or course. We do work for free. But just think how good it looks on my resume. |

Of course engineers, fabricators, and machinists, who are very familiar with firearms-but not gunsmiths or armorers-should not be able to post in your forum.
I had an "expert" gun plumber who was giving classes to other plumbers work on one of my 1911s. Everything he did broke or was crooked, etc. On second thought, I think you probably should have your own forum. |
