I inherited an H&R topper model 88 20ga shotgun from my grandfather several years ago. I was going to use it as my first shotgun, so my dad and i took it out to try it out. The thing wouldnt fire. We figured out that the topper had a few different series. My shotgun has a different series hammer in it for some reason. I found the correct hammer on a site, but i dont know what happened to the website, and i cant find it.
Does anyone know a website that sells topper parts? This website had tions of parts, barrels handguards.. Basically everything for the Topper. i would like to restore this shotgun because it is one of the only guns i got from my grandfathers 85 gun collection. i also got a cheapie 22 rifle and a Lee Enfield... All the rest went to my uncle. my dad had to beg for the 3 i got. IE: all of his winchester model 94's. he had one in damn near ever caliber. i saw a few of them at my uncles... about 20.. all in unfired condition. i asked about buying one them recently.. but my uncle said no. thank you for any help |

well i discovered i was wrong. it turns out that my topper is missing the transfer bar for some reason... i still need a parts source tough.. Here is the part The transfer bar (striker / lifter assembly) gets hit by the hammer every time you fire the gun and is prone to breaking. I replace this part on at least 3-4 guns per year. |

Take out the 2 trigger guard / trigger pins.
Remove the trigger assembly Disengage the main spring Take out the hammer pin Remove the hammer Take out the locking block /transfer bar pin. Remove the locking block / transfer bar assembly and spring Replace all in reverse order _________________________ All pins are splined on one end and should only be removed with the splined end being driven out first. A "slave pin" is needed to hold both the locking block/transfer bar and the trigger parts in place for re-assembly. _________________________ An alternate and possibly easier method sent via PM |
