| Today I was at Gander Mountain JAX and saw a double barrel side by side that had plastic furniture, rails and was ported. The more I think about it, the more I think it would be a great HD gun. Anybody seen this before? I cannot even remember who made it. Of course, I do have two 870s so I was not really looking.... |

Its already tacticool enough being a short barreled side by side. You don't need to try to improve its awesomeness anymore. I do not think it would be a good HD gun. It only has a capacity of 2 rounds and does not have ejectors to get the spent casings out fast. I'll keep my 870 for HD and get a Coach Gun Supreme for a fun gun. |

Nothing say's."Get out of my house" better than jacking a round into the chamber of a pump shotgun. Side by side's have thier place. Tactical is not that place IMO. They are what you clean when your daughter's boyfriend come's over for the first time. I have a 10 gauge just for that. |
| I think it is a good idea to be able to hang a light on a double, however I think the 870 Pumps are more than adequate. I am sure everyone will say "get a $xx used 870 or M500" however I think the supply of good used reasonably priced shotguns may be drying up. This is just another option. I think someone saw Clint in that Thunder Ranch ad and got carried away. Thanks for the information. |

You get 3 years mandatory for that. Its good to know firearms laws in case if daddy tries to pull that shit with me. I would usually just strike up a conversation about it first and start talking about how I love shooting as well. If I got the vibe that he was threatening me with it, I would tell him that what he is doing is illegal and could get 3 years for it. |

Never have been a fan of an old design being tactic-cooled out. It's one reason I've never liked seeing AK's with all the M4 stocks and all the other stuff. If you want something with an M4 stock, might I recommend and M4? Ummmm, isnt an m4 a tacticooled m16? Just askin! |

In the meantime come in my house in the middle of the night uninvited. And if a guy who's trying to fuck my daughter wants to turn me over to the law for cleaning my shot gun. In my own home. My daughter would have the common sense to kick the little dweeb to the curb. Shit you would probably have a seizure if I told you what my father in law pulled when he met me for the first time. |

It's safe practice to keep the tube loaded and the hammer down on an empty chamber. With a pump shotgun. Let's see where did I learn that.........Oh ya my buddy's in the PD. The one's who do that stuff for a living. Grab shotgun. Rack slide. Identify target. You would'nt want to shoot your roommate now would you? And shoot if you need to. I have actually had to use a gun to defend myself. Maybe you should practice blading at a 45 when someone is actually pointing a gun at you. Cause let me tell you from experiance. We could go on with "what if's" for quite some time. Knowing the condition of one's weapon's at all time's is very important. So my firearm storage requirements may vary from your's. Thank you for your input. |

Back on topic....
I don't see why coach doubles are not a decent choice for home defense. In fact, they may be a good idea for someone who is going to load and it leave it for months at a time. No feed spring, shells are not kept under tension and will not mushroom. Leave the tang safety on 'fire' if you want. They are about as light, compact, and maneuverable as you are going to get in a long gun. My dad has a stoeger coach double loaded with #4 along with 2 00 shells and 2 slugs in the butt cuff. It could use a little work so that it opens smoother, but is great fun to play with. It has two triggers so that you can let both barrels go at the same time if you want.... |

All SxS shotguns should have double triggers. +2 <one for each trigger a SxS should have!). I'd even go so far as to say a OU should have double triggers also. "Tacti-cool" side by side? I guess all I need to do is add some rails to my old Savage/Stevens 311....it already has plastic <Tenite> furniture.

| Maybe I'm just paranoid. But rule #1 in a gunfight is have a gun. Rule #2 is you can never have too much ammo. Limiting myself to only two shot's is not for me. True in most HD situation's 2 is probably 1 more than you really need. But ya never know. I'll stick with my pump. |

I agree, if it was $150 that would be one thing but it is as much if not more than many of the tested pump guns. Now if it was all I could get I really wouldn't feel under armed, but I will stick with my 870 for now. Edit: If I had to use one, I would have a shell carrier on the stock. |

I one time( I did say only one time right), pulled both triggers at the same time. It was so long ago that I can't remember how many stitches it took to close my hand back up, and I was sure that they missed something broken. A finger on each trigger only leaves you holding with your thumb and last two fingers, and the pistol part of the stock, on most doubles, is pretty straight. Now in the house you could put a finger on each trigger, whack the butt against the wall behind you, automatically pulling both triggers and taking the recoil. It probably wasn't smart on my part to use 3" 00 buck for the first try either. I will say the 35 gal. drum that I hit, on the top third of it, went end over end over a 15' sand hill. Most impressive! |
