| I can see where if I were to take lets say a coach gun and cut the barrels down to about 12" and leave the stock on that I would then have a SBS, but do I still have pay the stamp if I cut the stock into a pistol grip formation? If not then what is the longest I can have the barrels? Thanks in advance! |

Quoted:
Barrels shorter than 18" = SBS Barrels shorter than 18" and no stock = AOW (I believe) Yes, in order to not go to jail you need to get your tax stamp BEFORE you modify the weapon. AOW's made from shotguns are considered "smooth-bore pistols". To qualify as an AOW, a shotgun must never have had a shoulder stock attached. Virgin receivers or factory-made pistol gripped shotguns like the Mossberg Cruiser are AOW hosts. A shoulder-stocked shotgun becomes a Short Barreled Shotgun if the barrel is less than 18". |

And knowing is half the battle Then again, good luck trying to get a 870 virgin receiver; apparently Remington is really cutting back on these to meet production quota. My local Class III has had Serbu Super Shorties backordered since January... |
