I have an 870 Wingmaster that is about a year old, purchased new. While prepping it for early goose season, I noticed the chrome plating peeling on the bolt face and edge. There were a few small bits of chrome plating in the receiver. This does not seem to be acceptable normal wear to me.  Does anybody have any information about this? Should it be replaced. Warranty?
Thanks for any comments.

Sounds like bad prep or bad batch of chemicals. I've got wingmasters up to 51 years old that don't have flaking chrome on the bolt.

Call remington.

Can't say I'd buy a nice blued steel and high gloss walnut stocked shotgun to goose hunt with.

Yes contact.   Remington Repair at 1-800-243-9700.  Have your serial number and date of purchasehandi and explain the problem.  Tell them you want the bolt replaced.  They will give you an RGA number to send it back.  You can wait on a shipping label from them but that delays things so simply ship it USPS.   That part should not flake as stated in the above post, that finish last forever.  I play hell having to remove that plating when a client wants a bolt refinished.  It takes an acid bath to get it off.   You will get a new bolt back and I can bet there are other weapons in that series that have the same issue and they are well aware of it.

Thanks for confirming my opinion. I hope they will just take the bolt instead of shipping the whole gun. I will call them Tuesday.

They don't call it a WINGMASTER for nothing. After the first scratch, you just enjoy using a good pump.

I own five of them. I don't hesitate to use them for dove/quail/etc., but duck/goose hunting isn't going to happen.
