| On those side saddle shell carriers is there something that goes between it and the actual gun when you mount it? What generally comes with it when you buy one...say from TacStar? Just the shell carrier and 2 screws? I didn't know if there was something that fit between it or not to protect the finish or something. |

For an 870, it comes with the two main screws and the actual carrier along with 3 different allen wrenches.
However, the carrier is made up of two parts even though it come assembled. The actual "slots" that hold the shells are made of plastic and this part screws onto a metal plate with 6 small allen screws. The metal plate is what the two main receiver screws thread into and it what goes between the slots and the gun's receiver when you mount it. LOL, I hope that makes sense. |

I'll definately keep that in mind. I try to shop around and see what is available you know? And at the best prices of course. The thing is I guess some things look attractive due to the price but I certainly don't want to skimp on quality either you know?
ETA: Hey I noticed on some of the shell carriers it says on "field grade" shotguns a modification may have to be made to the forend? What kind of modification is this? Does the back of the forend bump the shell carrier? |

You say "trimmed" lol. Is it just a small amount? It's pretty obvious I assume once you have the shell holder on where it needs to be trimmed? What is the best way to trim it? Sorry... I'm full of questions lol. You will need to remove the forend from the shotgun and from the action bars. The forend will have to be cut so when it is in the rear most position it will not cover the receiver at all (on the left side at least). Hope that explains it. It is usually just easier to get a tactical style forend, like the one speed feed makes. Those are already the correct size. |
