Max effective range will be determined by shooting load X through your gun/choke on a patterning board.
000 will be more effective due to size and weight, though pattern density suffers.
"T" shot is .200" in diameter, smaller than either 00 or 000 buck. I've only seen it available in steel.

Try them all, but modified will probably work best.

T is technically not buckshot, it's hailshot. There are several sizes of hailshot (B, BB, BBB, T, TT, TTT) ranging from .17" to .22" but most of them are obsolete and no longer produced to my knowledge.

T and BB are about the only ones still used, and unless T has had a real surge in popularity lately, only BB is widely available.

T would have more pellets per load than #4 buckshot, but I'd prefer the .24" pellets of #4 in a defensive shotgun. Hailshot is basically "birdshot on steroids" and not really sufficient (in my opinion) for defensive use.

ETA: I believe that the only reason T still exists is that it carries farther in heavy magnum steel waterfowl loads than BB.

I've had the best patterning luck out of modified.  It even makes unplated, no flight wad Nobel Sport 12 pellet pattern respectably!

Another vote for the Mod. choke with 00-Buck.
