I decided to break down and clean my new (to me) Rem. 870 Express Magnum.  Its the 7- shot variety.  I downloaded the owners manual from Remington's website, and followed the steps up until this point: When I went and tried to unscrew the nut on the magazine tube, it wouldn't budge.  And it still won't budge.  And I'm getting pissed off.  So I don't know if the guy i bought it from was the Hulk and simply tightened it too tight, or if something else is the problem.  Thanks in advance, Tyler.

They can kind of jam if overtightened.  Use a strap wrench, or try using one of those rubber discs used to open jar lids.

For reasons not clear, Remington insists on WAY over tighten the coupling at the factory.

As above, use a strap wrench or padded pliers.
If you scar up or damage the coupling getting it off, contact Remington and complain.  They will send you a new coupling.

To reinstall, tighten the coupling down just snug, then give it ONE more "click".  You should be able to unscrew the coupling with just your fingers.

With the coupling on, screw the extension on until it JUST contacts the gun's magazine tube, then install the clamp.
If you tighten the extension too tight, the tubes can misalign and cause jams.  Too lose and you can leave a gap between the tubes that will cause jams.
