So tell me about the Winchester model 1912, in 12 gauge, 2 /34 only. nickel metal barrel.

The Remington Model 12 was a pump .22 rifle, and a damned fine one too. You may be thinking about their Model 10 pump shotgun. Here is the history page at the Remington site...

The barrel is stamped Model 1912??? It is a 12ga shotgun. 30" barrel. I meant to put Winchester, sorry.

Aha! Different shotgun entirely, and what a shotgun the M12 was! You can do a detailed search on the net for more information than you will want to read, but here is a quick starter from Wiki...

The Mod 12 was one of the finest, if not the finest, pump shotgun ever made.  The expense of manufacture is what killed it.  IIRC, "nickel steel" was stamped on Winchester guns to denote a stronger steel more suitable for use with smokeless powders.
