Hello, This is my first post on here I really like the website alot of nice guns an good information

i have a question for everyone.

I have a mossberg Maverick 88 shotgun I just got it last week and I want to kinda customize it up a little bit but idk if its worth doing that to a mav 88?

the things I want to do are
Add a 18.5 inch barrel
heat shield
Side saddle
and some kinda tactical stock

and maybe a flashlight ( if it would work)

can that be done to a maverick 88, or would it be better for me to buy a mossberg 500 or remington 870??

Thanks in advance and i look forward to posting on here more

Your Maverick 88 is basically a bargain-basement model 500.  Same basic robust design, but even less expensive than a Mossberg 500.  I bought one off a co-worker for $90 and he had only put a few rounds through it.  Eh, I can't resist a bargain.

The main differences between them are that the 500 has the preferred top-mount safety and the 88 has the less desirable trigger-group mounted safety lever.  My 88 also has the heaviest trigger I've ever experienced on any Mossberg.  Some early 88s has only one action bar but later ones have dual bars, like the 500.

Most accessories, such as Side Saddles, factory barrels and furniture should interchange 100%.  For a cheap, easy "tactical" stock, buy a factory "youth" stock that has a 1" shorter length-of-pull.  Skip that Knox hooey and retain a fixed stock with which one can administer a proper butt stroke if needed.

thanks, yeah i kinda realized i want to keep the stock as much as standard as possible that youth one isnt a bad idea actually a lil bit shorter but will look the same.

get the 18" barrel, side saddle, and flashlight but forget about a heat shield.

for a replacement stock check out Speed Feed. I think Ramline makes a youth stock with shorter length of pull known as the Cadet.  Knox opps [or something like that] makes a recoil-reducing stock with springs inside of it that's supposed to work well.

Maverick 88 was my first shotgun and is worthy of dishing out a beatin'!
