My 870 has started to have an issue with trying to feed two rounds at once ever once in a while.  Yes, I do rack it with authority and it still happens.

I am assuming one of the pineed springs is probably worn and needs to be replaced?  I have clean ed under them to make sure there is no crud binding things up, and in geenral I keep my weapons in very clean condition.

[ETA] it also has a rare issue with ejecting the spent shell and the one it shoudl be laoding...I am assuming I should get all four spings in teh receiver replaced?

The springs to replace are the magazine spring, and both shell releases.

The shell releases require a special riveting tool.  Either have a gunsmith who you KNOW has the proper tool, or send it in to Remington.

Brownell's does sell the tools:

Tool number Seven.

Thanks Faris.  I think you actually answered this very same question for me a year ago, but the gun has been collecting dust until now.

Oh well, I only paid $105 for the gun and it runs 99% of the time, I guess I can shell out a few bucks to get it fixed.

Would you reocmmend *not* taking it to Gander Mountain?

I have no idea of Gander Mountain's gunsmithing abilities.
Since this is an easy job IF you have the tool, I'd imagine they could do it right.

Of course, since it's not a pistol, you could just ship the action assembly to Remington for a factory repair.  This would be fairly cheap to ship.
They often will also correct minor defects while they're at it for no charge.

Took her into Gander Mountain last week (they are an authorized Remington repair center, adn only 3 miles away), despite being made in 1963 the Gunsmith said there was a good chance they would just cover it under warranty work.  Here's hoping...I only paid $105 for the gun in the first place!
