I picked up 2 police trade in's today. Both are 18 inches and a little barreled 870's, one is a Wingmaster(ext worn, wood stock kind of blistered, int. brand new). The other is a Magnum(worn ext, very good interior).

The question is: Where in the food chain is the "Magnum"? I was thinking if it was an Express it would say it on the receiver. I installed a Remington mag ext. as soon as I got home(no tube divots).

I think it came out to $480 for both out the door. Both have incredibly smooth actions, better than my well loved Express.

Thanks in Advance

In the days before the Express, the Police gun was nothing more than a dull finish Wingmaster.
Over the years Remington varied the markings on the Police gun with many 2 3/4" chamber guns marked "Wingmaster" and later Magnum guns often stamped simply "Magnum".

In any case, you have two Wingmaster grade guns NOT Express guns.
Express guns were always stamped "Express" to separate them from the Wingmaster sporting or Police guns.

Excellent! I was really after the Wingmaster since I 1st saw it. I just wasn't sure of the other. The Magnum was a recent trade in, it wasnt there on the last trip.

Yes, it was $486.xx for the two, post taxes.

I've been wanting a decent platform for a SBS. The Wingmaster may be the ticket for the "Remington Steal" treatment and 14inch barrel.

I have got to stop this....Winchester Model12, Remington 11-48, and now these 870's in about a month.

Thanks Guys

At the shop i work at we have sold over 30+ Police trade in Remington 870's. A few of them were Magnum's and most all the others have been Wingmasters. They are 30% condition and 60% condition, most of them are mostly cosmetic and blemishes, dings, rust on the barrels and receivers, wood stocks and forends. They insides look great with smooth actions and barrels are shiny down the bore. We have been selling them for $149.95 for 30% condition and $199.95 for 60% condition and none of them last longer than a week. Most people are buying them as a project gun to fix up or a truck gun!

My 870 SBS is marked "Magnum" only, but it is most definitely a police gun, at least as far as I can gather.  It has a metal trigger housing, parked finish, Al follower and chrome bolt.  Your sounds similar to mine.

For $150 I would snatch one or two up in a heartbeat for projects.  As long as the internals are OK, It would be GTG.

You could send one of them to Scattergun Technologies and have it refurbed or converted into one of their awesome shotguns.

That's the plan for the Wingmaster since its only a 2 3/4 inch gun. That will be 14inches once i get the paperwork completed and approved.
