I own a Mossberg 500A and I want to purchase a lighted forearm. I've been looking at Surefire's 623FA. I can't really think of the justification of an extra $50 to have a disable switch like the 623FGA.

Does anybody have any personel experiance with this light? Does anybody recomend another brand?

If I do go with the 623FA are there going to be any suprises with the install? Am I going to need special tools or replacement parts?

Thanks in advance

They're good lights but they're expensive as hell.

If I were you, I would look very seriously at some of the newer LED lights, like the TLR-1. Shotgun recoil is hard on incandescent bulbs.

My personal suggestion: Pick up a Falcon Industries railed forend and mount the light to it. Then you can swap the light between your shotgun and whatever other weapons you own that will take a light.

Try Calvin at Brightflashlights in the industry forum for prices on lights. He is great people, a supporter of the site and has the best prices around IMO...I have bought many lights from him over the years.

I have a SF 618 (Rem 870) without the disable switch and if I had it to do over would spend the extra money...it is too easy for me to hit the light inadvertantly. Personally, I don't think any light setup out there can beat the SF fore end lights but I would really like to see them come out with an LED version for the shotguns.

The switch will save batteries. I've have my shotgun fall over and engage the pressure switch. Went to check on it for cleaning and inspection....batteries doa.

I had no real issues installing. I just removed the pump and got a sma flat bladed screw driver that fit into the notches and turned the nut. Install by reversing.

Just to add -- I certainly have no problems with the SureFire dedicated forends (pricey though they are); I'm just not grinding the bayonet lug off my 590A1.

Well, that and the ability to switch my light between weapons...

Get the one with the kill switch.  I did not.  I made a mistake.

+1 for Calvin. The SF forends are too expensive for my needs & I wanted something that wouldn't burn out or break a lamp so I went w/the TLR-1. Considered using a tapeswitch but the rockerswitch is quick & easy to access with my forefinger and total cost including mount was only $125.

ETA: Since this pic was taken I've moved the TLR-1 to directly under the bbl.
