How do you shape and buff a recoil pad on a synthetic stock?

The same way you shape and buff a pad on a wood stock.

Attach the pad to the stock*. Scribe a line around the stock on the flat face of the pad. Take the pad off the stock then grind/sand/buff the pad down to the inside of the scribed line. Several jigs available to hold the pad while you grind it. I use a modified B & R type jig I made myself, a 6 x 48 belt sander with a 120 grit belt, followed up with buffing on a cotton wheel

* On a synthetic stock you may have to install a block or other means to give the new recoil pad's screws a place to attach. The exsisting holes in the stock may not line up with the new pad's screw holes.

Here is a pad I installed (on a wood stock, but as I said the fitting and finishing of the pad is the same)

I'm lazy, I attach the pad to the rifle. Then place a band of 2 inch blue masting tape around the stock above the pad. Then using a belt sander I sand it to the tape. I peel off the tape and move on with life.
