I just picked up a Franchi SPAS 12 with the fixed entry stock off of gunbroker. Its clearly in used condition, but it looks and feels solid. Although several semi-automatic shotguns seem to be fairly complex, at first blush, the SPAS seems to be an overly complex weapon.

Initial impressions aside, I've got a question for you combat shotgun geniuses out there. When I operate the bolt, and then release it forward with the catch button, pulling the trigger does not seem to cycle the firing pin...at least I do not feel or hear the firing pin triggering. In otherwords, either you can't perform the "traditional" function test with this shotgun, or something is wrong...

Anyone have any feedback? FYI...it appears to be one of the older models with the lever trigger safety.

Thanks in advance y'all...

Ya check to see if yours has the faulty safety ? I remember something about the hammer falling when the safety was taken off in a certain way..

I'll worry about the safety issue and the buffer issue if I can first get the thing to discharge when I pull the trigger...

There are two safeties on your SPAS.  There is the main either lever or push button in front of the trigger guard.  The second is a small lever that you release with your finger in the trigger guard by moving your finger forward, the opposite direction if you were trying to pull the trigger.  It automatically engages everytime you manually cycle the action.

Good Luck with your new SPAS!!

take the safety off. you had to engage it in order to pump the shotgun. The trigger will not engage anything with the safety on.

oh and if you cant figure it out or dont like it you can always trade it to me for a FN SPR A1

If you're not saying this in jest, I will seriously consider it. My brother just got one and I've been thinking about picking one up too. Do you have pics?

And by the way...I finally got the hammer to fall. I was just cycling the bolt. Apparently you need to manually pump the fore-end to get the damn thing to cock. Thanks for all the tips...

Well, I'm taking the SPAS to the range this weekend for the first time to make sure it goes "bang" when I pull the trigger...if you still have the SPR (I saw your listing in the equipment exchange), we'll talk next week and I'll send you pics as well...
