Anyone here have experience with the SPAS 12? I shot one the other day at the range and really liked it. They run about $1000. Would a Benelli M4 be a better buy for the money?

Thanks

I love the SPAS 12, but I don't think I'd pay that kinda money for a 12 ga. (unless I plan on going dino hunting!)

Get the M4 if you need something more practical.  If you really want a SPAS then get one.  They are definitely worth the money.

Do some research on it and you will find out it is all looks and no performance.

I figured it might be all looks, but damn it looked good.

It's not *all* looks, but mostly.  It's heavy, overly complicated to operate, and has alot of parts, some of which are prone to breakge.  It works the same as any other good shotgun, it puts buckshot where you point it and it does it reliably.

It took me about 3 minutes of handling one to decide that I'd rahter have an 870 any day.  I admit they look cool though.

I'd like to get one eventually.  More just to have one than for practical reliable use.

I played with one at a pawn shop but it was very clunky and off balanced.  Ill stick to normal shotguns anyday

It really depends on what you want to do with it. If you think a Rem870 or Mossberg590 is heavy then stay away from the spas. If you want something simple and cheap, stay away from the spas. If you want a kick ass shotgun that has alot of features and you can do alot with, get the spas. The only other shotgun that even comes close is Benelli imo.
