I have a relatives Winchester pump gun around here somewhere and want to do some testing with 000 buckshot as a defensive/assault load ( testing the loads characteristics not the guns ) and I'm sure the Winni has a full or modified ( non swapable ) choke. Is it safe to test 000 in a barrel like this or does it really need to be a cylinder bore to prevent damage to the barrel?

No problem, fire away.

if the chike is not removable, the choke should be stamped on the barrel.

any choke up to a full choke will be fine with buck shot.

Keep in mind that 000 buck will be diffrent in diffrent guns depending on barrel length and choke.
