Cannot pump the action once you fire a shot. Locks up and cannot get it free. Mess with it for 3 or 4 minutes and it will finally slide.

Everything is lubed and clean. Tried different shells and still does it.

What size shells in what size chamber? (not trying to say you're force feeding 3 1/2" in a 2 3/4"... I just remember hearing about a problem with chambering/ejecting that related to it)

Its a 3 inch chamber. Shooting 3 inch shells. Did shoot some 2.75s, but they did the same thing.

What shells are you using? is it happening on every shell or only once in a wile? the reason i ask is because on some of the cheaper shells the hulls expand a bit to much and can cause a jam. i've had it happen on my 500, 535 and 870.

Its almost like the lug isnt unlocking. Doesnt really make sense to me though.

Shooting some S&B 00 buck and some old field loads. Think the field loads are federal.

The shotgun has worked perfect in the past.

I had that problem and had to shove a cleaning rod down the barrel to dislodge the empty shell, I was firing some old 3" ammo that I knew needed cleaning, but shot anyway.  It was a cleaning/maintenance issue with mine.

Swap the barrel out with a different barrel and see if it still does it.

If not, then you have a chamber issue. Either a poorly honed chamber or excessive residue buildup

Also, see if you have any burrs on the locking lug, or the recess in the barrel extension it locks into. I mention this because you said it felt like the locking lug wasn't dropping when you start to pull the action back open.

UPDATE: Slide racks back fine. If you dry fire it the slide will not move.

Did you observe to see if the action unlocks when you dry fire it?

Sounds like you have a defective trigger group. I'd send it back to Mossberg for warranty replacement

Think I figured it out. The hammer was moving off center slightly and binding when you try and rack the slide. Went to home depot and bought a small aluminum spacer to keep it where its supposed to be. Seems to be ok now, but havent fired it yet.

Thanks for everyones help!!!!!!!

I shot the gun and the spacer fixed it!  Thanks white_wolfe and everyone else for their input.
