Subject pretty much says it all:  I've got 2 shotguns we've never fired, and would like to check them for pattern.  How do I go about it?  Preferably cheaply!
TIA.

Get some large sheets of white paper.  I have a lot of leftover packing paper from U-Haul from the last time I moved and it works great.  Attach the paper to some type of support, attach a target, draw a circle, whatever.  Pick your distance, aim at your prefered point of impact and see what happens.  I suggest picking up a variety of loads to see what works best in your gun.  I hope this helps.

Here is an even better explanation from a very experienced shotgunner:

Checking out that link to The High Road, I remembered stumbling across a box of U-Haul "wrapping paper" for moving, large sheets of newsprint.
Now I just need a frame...

(Back in The Dark Ages I recall my shop teacher Mr. Pitcher bitching about some guy he ran into in a state park, using a picnic table for patterning his scatter gun for pheasant season...)

A refrigerator box works well, or any box that a large appliance or something was packed in.
