After I finished the build another member here wanted to swap barrels so this is the final version.

Because of your original thread on the Apex kit, I purchased a kit and receiver and put one together.

Yeah, but I'm like you, I like building a gun.  Here's a crappy pic of the one I got

Went to a local gun show this morning and found a nice deal. Earlier production 870 Express with a 20" smoothbore barrel, rifle sights. Wood is good, finish is still good, action is smooooooth. $300 (And its not the right section but the 5.56 was $24/box)

https://imgur.com/Fqi0hc9

And I had bought a 3-shot extension off Armslist for my 870 Express tactical, tried it out on this one and its now as good as permanent.

Pre RMR

Brownells had the shockwave on sale. I think with a coupon + free shipping it was $369. I bought through active junky and got 7% cash back.

The RMR is on sale from Cabela's for $325. 10% off with active junky.

Scalarworks mount is $120 and I think Brownells has them in stock so should work with the 7% off. I bought direct from scalarworks.

And oversized safety, xs front sight, and aftermarket follower round out the package with some stippling thrown in.

Today will be the first day of shooting with the RMR. I think it will be awesome. Much easier to find the dot than on a handgun.

Picked up a Mossberg 500 the other day.  Added a Blue Force Gear Hunter sling, an extended steel safety, a couple of 6 round Esstac shotgun cards, and some velcro on the stock and reciever.

Next up is a light mount but I can't find the 1 inch L&M mounts in stock anywhere.  May add a Big Dot front bead and upgraded follower later.

My goal with this one was to keep the gun light, handy, and simple.  So far I'm really liking this shotgun!  I'm enjoying it a lot more than the fully decked out tank of a Benelli M2 Tactical I had previously

The big dot is worth the price of admission. Extended safeties are surprisingly helpful imo

Thanks.  Yeah, the big dot looks like a great addition.  I went with the safety that has the "hump" on the back, It has been a lot easier to actuate.  The plastic one from the factory was too easy to slide over with my thumb.

The Blue Force Gear Hunter sling is probably tied with the safety for my favorite addition so far.

Instead of a more complicated "tactical" sling, I decided to go with a simple design from a reputable manufacturer. Very minimalistic but easy to adjust out or tighten up to keep a low profile so it doesn't snag.  Easy to carry muzzle down "African" style over my left shoulder for quick access but large enough to sling across the back to keep it out of the way when needed.

It is easily adjusted by a slider and uses the standard sling swivel studs.  Highly recommend to those looking for a sling of that style.

I think the safety is backwards

I grabbed a cheap nylon 2 point from Walmart for mine. $17 and it's got a one handed slide too.

I do believe that, that Safety IS reversible, for the shooters decision as to which is more comfortable.

Not a slam, just that I have one like it on a Mossy 835.

Yeah, it's reversible.  I tried it the other way first but I've got big hands and it hit my thumb in a weird spot.  Fits me much better with the hump in front of the screw.

I almost got a sling from Wal-Mart too but I couldn't find one in coyote brown .  I think I only paid $25 or so for it with free shipping so it wasn't that much more expensive.
