I've added nothing to my 870p AOW . its a small gun and I don't want it any bigger by hanging crap off of it. it could use a small light if it made the gun no bigger.

2 different guns for different purposes. kinda like I won't use my #1 in.375H&H for room CQB.

I had to say it.  now on my 590 I've got the tac star side saddle and the factory speed feed. thats 9+6+4 on the gun if thats not enough I've got bigger problems than a lack of shells. like wheres my pistols and rifle.

So thats where I put the ammo to load it.

Does any one use any pouches or anything on a belt or vest or anything like that. One guy said he actualy used the m-16 mag pouches and left them in there loose and that he prefered that to the military shotshell carrier.  I am looking for a set up to go with that does not mount on my shotgun.

I am thinking more along the lines of self defense and do not want them to fall out if I took it camping or something.

I use an old GI issue ammo bag I sling over my shoulder (about $5 bucks at your local surplus store), with a couple of normally belt mounted open shell holders inside which keeps different shells (00 buck, 1 oz. slugs, birdshot) organized, pointed in the right direction and in one place...

By simply reaching my hand in I have access to over 30 rounds of various shotshells and slugs (smooth transition), more if desired... Picking various shells by feel is very simple a case of picking shells from the forward or rearward container, or birdshot which is located in shotshell holders on the sides of the containers themselves... Using such a setup it allows you to quickly stash the extra shells nearby to your location if necessary, and it keeps the shotgun nice, light and easy to handle.

I really don't use the front pockets for anything significant, although I stuff a set of triple flange earplugs in one of them just in case they are needed... Good for holding a lightweight face veil as well...

It's also convenient to have some sort of side saddle, or buttstock shell holder for those times when grabbin' just the shotgun and perhaps a selection of shells is needed, instead of just the 00 buck in the magazine (for instance poisonous snake duty).

FWIW, I have a maxpedition dump pouch which has a draw string top and velcro that can be used even to close it up when on the move. Comes in handy for more than just shooting too

Thanks for all the ideas guys. After trying to pull shotgun shells out of the little elastic straps fast I have decided to find a pouch like you guys use and carry them loose in the pouch. If I want different ammo I willl get a different colored pouch   oobuck/black     slug/green  ect.  My old m-16 pouches work fine when I tried them.

I did pretty much the same thing. A cheap $5 black hip-pouch from Walmart works perfectly... different compartments for different types of shot. Main compartment full of buckshot.

I had tried a bandoleer earlier and while it looked badass it just wasn't comfortable.
