NEF makes a single shot .22 and .410 combo.   I have to say though the .410 is worthless as a shotgun, a 20ga has far more utility.

The old snake charmer was kind of neat though.

I like the 410 more than the 20.  I have better luck with it, but it just might be the guns.  I have an old 24f that really puts the killing in grouse and ptarmigans.

I also like the .410 slugs and the buckshot that is available for them.  NEF makes a better of the SnakeCharmer, the Survivor(?) I think it is.  Nickel plated like the charmer, but with a better stock.

Just watch out for the autoejectors.  You will get a empty shell in the forehead the first few times.

Mossberg 500.Walmart sells it with a full choke barrel for $199.00. Fun gun. Later you can add a 18" cylinder bore barrel and a pistol grig for more fun. They also make a 24" barrel cylinder bore with tru-glo sights for shooting slugs and buck. MIKE.

I have one of the H&R Tamers in .410 it's a single shot and a lot of fun to shoot. You can pick them up for about $150, it's a nickel finish similar to the Mariner finish on Rem and Moss shottys. It has pistol grip stock and holds 4 additional rounds on the stock, all synthetic.

Saiga is also cheap AND versatile.  I like mine.

If you want the ultimate FUN .410 look for a Winchester 9410.  It is a leveraction shotgun built for 410 shotgun shells.  Not cheap though

You can get the Tamer stocks for the NEF's straight from Choate or from MidwayUSA.  Pick up a good used 410 at your local pawn shop and you have a neat toy on a frugal budget.

The ejectors are very easily converted to extractors, if you so choose.  perklo has all the cool mods, 'smithing tips, etc

www.perkloafm.com/

You can't beat the NEF's for affordable toys.  You have to be extremely careful though; they are highly addictive!  You'll find yourself buying more and spending more time shooting them than your pumps and autos.

Another option:

buy a NEF 20gauge Modified choke, and a Gauge-Mate .410 adapter.  This offers many more options, and doubles the fun.

a .410 is a horrible guage.
it throws a terrible pattern and is very hard to hit things, and the ammo is expensive

Get a 28ga.
the ammo is still expensive, but the pattern is beautiful (almost perfect, amazing), low to no recoil and things blow up

The .410 bore is used by thousands of skeets shooters every weekend to shoot registered skeet with. If you are getting bad patterns it is a problem with your gun not the .410 bore. I have five .410's, 2-1100's, 870, 500, 9410 lever action and a tube set is being installed in my sons Browning 525 as we speak. MIKE.

The 410 shell by design is quite unique.  There is more shot front to back than side to side.  A lot of "working man's" priced 410's come with a full choke that is completely wrong.  A modified, or preferably a IC choke is better so the shot has a better chance to spread slightly for better patterns.

Another thing to consider is shot size.  There are all kinds of shot sizes available in 410, but they are not optimum for the gauge/bore.  If you stick to #7 1/2 or smaller, you will see better patterns.

Another thing to try is 2 1/2" shells in a 3" chamber.  With the dynamics of the caliber, this seems to offer an advantage in the Full choked guns.

I have the kid's NEF and I had an older Mossberg pump, both obviously Full choke.  I haven't had any problems eliminating critters up to 12lb tomcats with both using #7 1/2 shot in 2 1/2" and 3" shells.  I don't have hones in that gauge, but I did spend some time polishing the forcing cones and bores to decrease shot deformation.

I think most field guns are full choke to ensure clean kills on small game. I have a 3" chamber modified choke on one of my 1100 barrels. I made clean kills on pheasants out to 40 yards using #6 shot. MIKE.
