Will rifled slugs damage a standard barrel.

No, rifled slugs are designed for smoothbore shotguns. Sabot Slugs are for rifled shotgun barrels.

Generally true. However, rifled slugs should not be fired from a full choke barrel.

Standard rifled slugs also known as foster style slugs are safe in standard full chokes but should be used in extra or super full turkey chokes. MIKE.

Mike's right.
Any STANDARD birdshot, buckshot, or slug can be fired through any STANDARD choke from Open Cylinder to Full.

Where you get into trouble is shooting slugs or larger buck through NON-standard extra-Full specialty chokes.

Sabot slugs can be fired through smooth bores, but accuracy usually isn't any good.

Older vintage Remington slugs used to say on the box "Not recommended for use in full chokes"
Newer ones (I just looked at a 5-rd pack I have here) says: "Rifled slugs may be fired through any choke, but improved cylinder is best".

So the consensus is that slugs should be fine in my Remington 870 Marine Magnum with the 18" barrel?
