just to start off with i am new to shotguns and know pretty much nothing about them.

im looking to get one for home defense and to use if i shoot in 3-gun matches. i was told about the FN police tactical shotgun and they have them for $270 so i though i would ask about them here.

any good or bad things to say about them? i know you get what you pay for and im not looking to waste any money, no matter how little it is.

also anything else you want to throw out there would be great, like i said, im new and know pretty much nothing about shotguns.

thanks guys

If you're actually able to get an FN TPS (Tactical Police Shotgun) for $270, snatch it up ASAP.  The MSRP is in the $600+ range.

I think you may be thinking of the regular FN Police Shotgun...  Those usually go from anywhere in the high-200 range up to high-300's.  I picked up a used one for $330 awhile back.  CDNN has them for sale at $270.

Good things:
I own one and think it's great.
The Winchester 1300 action is proven reliable (action on which this weapon is based on).
SpeedPump (rotary bolt operated via pump).
Nice fit and finish.
Looks and functions great with a SpeedFeed III stock, SureFire forend, and Tacstar sidesaddle.
Drilled and tapped reciever.
Removeable chokes (comes with Improved Cylinder and Modified).
One take-down pin.

Opinionated things:
Not everyone enjoys the SpeedFeed action.
It doesn't say "870" on it.
Aluminum reciever (Both the 1300 and 590 have aluminum recievers) rather than steel (870). (This one of the few actual disadvantages I can see compared to the Remington, unless you'd rather have the lighter weight vs. physical strength.)
Parkerization job isn't quite as rugged.
Doesn't have a bayonet lug like the Mossberg 590.
When equipped with the 7+1 magazine tube, barrel is connected to tube via one ring. (I view this as positive, less to take apart.  Some say that additional rings prevent the mag tube from getting bent up.)
Safety is located in front of the trigger. (I prefer this setup over either the 590 or the 870, to each their own.)

Either way, for the price, I'd say go for it.  Great deal on a firearm you'll be able to trust your life on.

it is the second one.  kinda weird cuz the advertisement on CDNN says FN Police 8 Shot Tactical.

either way this is it:

it was $290 shipped with speed fast tactical stock and a pair of shooting glasses thrown in, both for free.

now all i need to do is learn about shotgun ammo and what are the differences between them and i will be set.
