| I have an 870 without one and was wondering if I could get one and put it on my self. Jsut wondering. |

The Remington conversion kit includes a new bolt and carrier. I don't really see any differences in the bolt, but the carrier does have an extra cut in it. The problem is, the factory kit is pretty expensive. Some options are: Buy a used, complete trigger group, and a carrier. Buy the parts individually from Gun Parts Corporation. Since the mis-feed is strictly an operator induced problem, just practice with the loading cycle until you don't make that mistake. |

Upgrading a gun is no excuse for not training to use it properly. Training is free, and your life (and theirs) is priceless! Drill them until they do it right every time. It will be easier to learn to load the shells properly than to learn how to clear them in the dark with a BG coming at them. That being said, check Brownells to see if you can get just that part- they seem to have just about every part for the 870 as they stock Remington stuff. [edited] This appears to be waht you need: http://www.brownells.com/aspx/NS/store/ProductDetail.aspx?p=10691&title=CARRIER+ASSEMBLY You might call them to double check (and to make sure it is the flexitab" one), but the part is offically known as the "carrier" Dawg |

Yep. Again, the best "Fix" is operator training. You train with the gun until you can operate it "fumble-free". In your case, you have several option short of modifying the gun. One, it to keep the gun loaded in what's known as "Cruiser Ready" condition: The magazine loaded, the chamber empty, and the action uncocked. All that's needed to ready the gun for use, is to pump the handle. If there's a safety issue with a loaded gun, there are two EXCELLENT "fixes" for that, in the Mossberg Loc-box or the security device available from Sportsman's Guide: www.mossberg.com/locbox.htm www.sportsmansguide.com/cb/cb.asp?a=176908 Both of these security devices can be screwed to any flat surface like a wall, floor, even ceiling. These prevent the gun from both being stolen OR operated, even if they aren't attached to a wall. This makes a loaded shotgun totally safe, BUT quickly accessible for use. Another option might be to buy your sisters an inexpensive shotgun of their own. A used or new Remington with a Flex-tab unit, or even one of the other brands can be had fairly cheap. |
