Are all Express models 3 inch or our some 2&3/4? Mine has Express on the receiver but no mention of magnum.

I'm gonna guess that it's only 2 3/4....

Email Remington...they're response time is pretty quick....

The receiver  just has Remington 870 Express on it. All Express models in 12 gauge, 20 gauge and 410 bore have 3" chambers. 16 gauge and 28 gauge are 2 3/4" chambers. MIKE.

What a selfless man you are, using your 1000th post to help a fellow member instead of posting a thread to suck up band width....

What about the choke on the "express" model?  Would it have the cylindrical choke like the "magnum," or is that the difference between the two?

my express with factory +2 extension came with a 18in cylinder bore. I plan on getting a barrel with screw in tubes at some point in the near future

I once had an early Express model that had a 2 and 3/4 only receiver... To my knowledge, the serial # on a 2 and 3/4" receiver will have a "V" in it, while a 3" receiver will have an "M" in it....

My serial number does have a M in it. I have seen newer 870 Express shotguns that say Express Magnum on the receiver. I think it is a magnum receiver but just wanted some input. I never shoot 3 inch shells anyway. Thanks for the help.

As long as your barrel is 3" capable, it won't hurt anything to shoot a 3" shell through your receiver, even if it IS a 2 and 3/4" receiver - it just won't eject the shell all the way - so you'll have to remove the barrel to clear the spent shell... That'd be one way to tell for sure... It sounds like yours is 3" capable, though - if it were me I'd want to know - 3" shells are VERY useful for things like turkey/goose/duck hunting - and although they knock the snot out of you, I also like them for deer hunting...

Big, I never pay any attention to post count. I only talk when I have something to say. I do not respond on the GD board anymore. Too much bullshit over there. MIKE.

My wife bought me a 12 gauge Express combo with the 28" bird and 20" slug barrel the first year they came out, 1990 I think? It has a 3" chamber but does not say magnum on the receiver. The 12, 16, and 20 gauge models all have screw in chokes. The 28 gauge is a fixed modified and the 410 bore is a fixed full. MIKE.
