Its not that hard.
To use the tool, you must remove the whole assembly, the forearm, pump tube and feed arms......then remove the forearm from the tube.
You can't use the tool with it assembled since the mag tube is in the way.
You can use a flat screwdriver and work the two slots in the (almost a castle) nut.
Fieldstripping:
1) Remove mag tube nut (and mag spring)
2) Remove barrel
3) remove two retainer pins with a dull punch
4) remove trigger assembly
Here is the only tricky part:
5) Inside the rcvr, squeese the two arms that retain and release each shell from the mag tube. Simultainiously pull the forearm out.
The bolt should come with it.
6) Remove the forearm.
7) Take this opportunity to do some spring cleaning.
All that to use the tool.
I've done it several times with no tool. The torque required to install/remove the nut is low.
