Picked up a pre-ban Mini14 saturday. While looking over the rack before getting the Mini, I looked over a Mossberg 590 SS. Have no real knowledge of Mossberg or any other shotgun. My question is: Will it hold 8+1 3" shells or is the 8rnd capacity for the smaller 2 3/4"? Thanks
Jason

2 3/4"...3" capacity should be one shell less.

Also, you get one less with European made 2 3/4" buckshot, like Wolf, S & B, etc.

hoss622;

IIRC Wolf shotshells are made in the US...and why would a European 2 3/4' shell be different from any other???

Hmm I had heard that the Wolf Shotshells were being made in Germany.

S&B use a roll crimp and doesn't use as much material and the star type crimp american ammo makers use.  thuse the shells are a tad longer.  and you get 1 less capacity.

Well, just to update. I purchased the 590(Mariner) last Friday. Put a few boxes through it. Just enough to give me a feel for it. Well, I'm in love. Probably pick up another one (blued) in a few weeks. To answer my own question, it holds 8rnds(w/20"bbl) of 2 3/4"- 7rnds of 3" shells: Or 7rnds of 2 3/4" and 1rnd of 3" shot. MMmmmmmmm Mossberg, I recommend the 590. Now, time to accessorize.

this depends on how much extra space is in the magazine tube. My 11-87 will hold the same with both

The roll-crimped Wolf 12-gauge shells measure 2 9/16", as opposed to 2 5/16" for American-made star-crimped shells of the same advertised length. That's a full 1/4" difference in length. I, too, am under the impression that the Wolf shotgun shells are manufactured in Germany.

Accessories are the problem with my mossy.  I have a camoed 500 and am having trouble finding anyone who sells a full line of accessories for them. If I had to do it over again, I'd buy a 12 ga. Rem. 870. It's like Honda ATVs! Parts are everywhere
( too bad I bought an Arctic Cat)

Also, does anyone know where I can find a GOOD pistol grip buttstock for the mossy 500? The pistol grips with the detachable buttstock look a little cheap to me. I was thinking about the one from Choate?
