I am currently considering getting a used FNP-9 that has the stainless slide, however I would like to have the black matte stainless slide. Can the black slides be purchased separately from anywhere?

Why not buy one that already has a black stainless slide?

You can buy the slide from FN, it's around $200.  I know because I wanted mine refinished and they offered to sell me a new one instead.

I called them about 6 months ago wanting to find out how much it would cost to re-coat my slide since it got some hairline scratches across the top whilst riding in the passenger seat.  I got sent to the voicemail of the parts manager and left a message, I wait two weeks and then called back to their call center.  The guy that I spoke with told me it had to be "reblued" which I thought was strange, since A the finish does not feel or look like bluing and B even the black models have stainless slides which does not take to bluing the same as carbon steel, he quoted me something like $185 to do it.  I asked him again "is it just blued?" and he said yes, at which point I said I had a local gunsmith that would do bluing for far less and would talk with him first.  A few weeks after that I finally got my call returned by the parts manager and I told him that I'd already spoken with their service center and that rebluing the slide would cost half as much as the gun and I could probably just get a new one.  This was when I was informed that A.  the slide is not blued and B. they would not refinish it, but that I could pay for a new slide.  I don't know if you have to trade in your old one or not, but the cost was around $200.

Hopefully the info helps someone - I know I'm just some guy on the internet saying FN told me X, but it's the truth.  I haven't got any reason to tell it any way other than what happened.  Anyone could give them a call and verify it, maybe things have changed.
