Is a Ruger MK II and MK III frame interchangeable?  I have a MK II frame that is rusty and was looking for a replacement or options.  Need suggestions!

Thanks!

Good question!

I am going to guess the frames will match, as I believe the difference lies in the investment-cast barrel and receiver portion of the Ruger.

I've owned a Mk-I and a Mk-2, and these have always been the major changes to the platform, so I'm supposing the Mk-3 will be similar.

Looking forward to other replies!

Best,

Ed

Good luck finding a grip-frame without buying a whole gun.

Perhaps not such a problem, as the serial number on the investment-cast barrel & receiver is on that part, not the frame.

OP, check with dealers to see if they could special-order the frame for you, since it's not a serialized component.

Ruger requires the gun come back for factory installation and fitting of a grip frame.  I called about one and it was going to cost me quite a bit.  It really is cheaper to buy a whole gun.

I think I will just send it back to ruger and have it refinished.

Ruger will charge you big bucks for any work done.
My brother found a MKII grip frame cheap but it had the safety selector missing.
Some parts are hard to find and ruger wont sell you some parts that you need.
He sent in the grip frame and barrell upper to get the safety selector, $70 round trip shipping for the gun, $75 to install, $5 part = $150 just for a safety selector
Ruger will want the whole gun to test and wont take just part of the gun to do any work
on so your stuck with the $35 each way fedex shipping.
I have been finding parts that ruger wont sell us for the MKI's and MKII's at gun shows.

Or do it yourself
;
picked up this MKII at a gunshop for $150 in critical condition.
.

.
Broke it down for a new life.
Sent the barrel upper to mike At Tornado Tech for his magic touch.
barrel cut and threaded at 4.5 with thread protector
front sight moved back, and a nice finnish.
Then I polished all the trigger group for a smooth
Trigger job, no pre or post creep.
Aluninum oxide blast most parts for cerakote to come.
All parts that are gun metal grey are that color after oxide blast.
Matte clear carakote all the grey parts.
cerakote black parts.
Diferent springs and tune for good function with any ammo.
New extractor.
New grips and screws.
.
.
A 2nd life for this MKII and it
shoots nice.
