Have the opportunity to buy an original AMT AutoMag II in .22 Magnum for $200.00 out the door.  It does not have anything, except the pistol and the one mag in the pistol.  Extra Magazines are available for around $25 to $35 Dollars.
Does it seem worth it?  You know 22 magnum ammo is expensive.
In fact, I'm thinking that I'll get the AMT or a Norinco TT-33 in 9mm for $200.00.

Suggestions?????

Jeff Quinn's article about the .22 Mag Automag

The "original" Automags seem to have been a little "iffy" in their production.

AMT 22 pistols were real hit or miss as far as function, DO NOT buy it unless you can shoot it first.

I didn't know they were "discontinued and brought back into production".

I had to have one of the first ones in the late 80's, and it was really a POS. No matter what ammo I used, no matter how I cleaned and lubed it, poilished it whatever, it never ever fed or ejected properly. Every time the trigger was pulled I recieved an FTF or FTE.. I finally returned it through my FFL, and 2 months later it came back, and I swear it was like they never even touched it. Same exact probs, so I traded it in for a Ruger MK II Target 22lr. I was really discouraged and never considered the AMT Automag .22 Mag until I just found out they had been updated and put back into production.

Now, after reading that Gunblast review (.pdf version, not link) I am (very reserved) semi-interested again, but my recommendation is to make sure you get the latest model, not the early first production ones.. I experienced first hand, and saw other peeps from time to time with early models that were real problems, that could not be fully resolved..
