I am going to pick up a Tec-22 (once I find one for a decent price).  I know there are a LOT of horror stories about them.  I once shot one that would not function correctly two shots in a row.  I have also shot one once that would cycle perfectly (or, almost perfectly, this is a .22lr) mag after mag.

Is there any place that has information on making them run correctly?  I have seen mention of a video, but all I have found are full auto conversion videos, which I am not interested in (unless I get my 07/02 someday).

The problem I ran into with the one my Dad had was that the plastic frame rails that the bolt rides on were worn badly, causing inconsistant feed problems. IIRC, the only fix (short of putting more work into the gun than it is worth) is a new lower half, which will be plastic, and prone to the same wear.

Hmmm, the lower looks kind of complex.  I wonder if the rails could be lined with aluminum?  Probably not.

Maybe just keeping them lubed up with teflon spray would keep down the wear.

Both options would be possible.
I'd figure the aluminum lining would be time consuming, precise, and nerve-wracking to do on your own, or prohibitively expensive to have a gunsmith do for you.

My Dad's rails were worn badly when he got it.

The two I am looking at (I put a WTB ad in the EE) both look new.  If I were to redo the rails, I would either do it myself or have gunsmith friends do it, so cost wouldn't be too much of a factor.  I'll probably just use the Teflon spray and see how it goes.

Mine seems to have more of a FTF problem with the mags so I ordered some of the Tactical Innovations adjustable feedlip magazines (polymer and aluminum) to see if it would take care of the feeding problems and thus be more reliable and fun to shoot.

Hey BH, what's up?

I have a Tec-22 shipping to me today.  I should have the tracking number at home.

I just ordered some BC steel-lips to try.  Let me know how the TI mags work, I have my eye on their polymer mags.

Sure thing!  Let us know how the BC steel lips work out for you as I might look for a few myself for the future.

I finally got to the range to test out my "new" Tec-22.

Not great, but not too bad.

With the new BC steel lips and higher velocity ammo (CCI Mini-Mags) I had the best performance.  A couple of mags worth ran perfectly.

The next best mag was the cheapo eagles.  I had the worst perfomance with BC hot lips and the Intratec mag that came with it.

Federal bulk pack worked the second best, ammo wise.  CCI Blazer worked the worst.

The gun is surprisingly accurate.  I was ripping the center out of the paper.

I think the issues were ejection related.  The steel lips, with the nice big extractor, worked best.  The ejection issue could be poor extraction, I am still trying to pin that down.

The gun ran best when clean.  After 500 rounds, it would barely run at all.

(BTW, you CAN bump-fire these.  I had heard you can and managed to get off a couple of short bursts)

My pre-ban TEC-22 doesn't do half bad. I wouldn't bet my life on it. had
It's on the 3rd firing pin. Made this one myself from some softer steel so it won't crack. he
The problem now is the original clip is getting worn out and I haven't found any new ones that work very well.

It's had it's share of problems.

The main recoil spring has been shortened and cycles better.

I just picked one of these up -- to not steel the thread I have posted my issues with it here:

I took my Tec-22 out again.  I have a brand new TI mag now.

Using the TI mag and CC mini-mags, we didn't have a single problem.  Every round chambered and fired perfectly.  I ran a few CCI stingers through and they worked fine too.

I tried CCI Blazer again with the TI mag.  Had a few issues, mostly FTE.  A lot better than Blazer in a BC mag.

I had three little boys with me and they had a blast!  We had my new LM-7 and Mark II also.

I had some light prier strikes with my tec-22.  I decided to shave/grind the back of the bolt down so that the firing pin would protrude out the back more.  the hammer now hits it farther forward and the pin gets way better strikes.
I need to get a TI-25 mag and I feel have a good chance of it working magic.
