Anyone have an older 22/45 or similar drilled and tapped for the standard Weaver style base? I have a pair in bull 4 & 5.5" barrels, and would like to get them tapped for the base...but not sure of any smiths to use. Will the older receivers accept the same style bases? I'd really like to add a small red dot to one, and I am curious if I should add the base or simply pick up one of the bases that replace the rear sight.
Any suggestions? |

The receiver tube and barrels are not excessively hard. I don't want to say soft... but if you drill with a carbide drill bit, be careful!
It does not take much time or pressure to drill through the receiver tube and barrel into the chamber ! Ask me how I know !
I drilled mine after drilling a Beretta 92fs slide for a red dot mount. It was rather hard. Not thinking... I assumed it might be just as hard. It was not! I had the barrel replaced and it was costly. Besides the cost of the replacement barrel, the replacement requires a lathe to properly time the replacement barrel. |
