Can .22 long rifle be fired in a handgun chambered for .22 magnum?

Thanks for the input. Believe me, I will not be trying it

From everything I have read, No.
The case dimension of a 22 magnum is wider than that of a 22lr.
Supposedly a 22lr case has a chance of rupturing in a 22 magnum chamber.
I've never wanted to test it out.

I've read that it CAN be done, HAS been done, but SHOULDN'T be done.  You're asking for trouble.  Don't do it.

I had a Charter Arms Pathfinder in 22 Magnum.  Shot 22lr all the time.  Try yours out and see if the case splits.  If it does, stop.  If not fire at will.

It's like kicking a MMA fighter in the nuts. Just because it can be done, doesn't mean it should be done.

Either get a dedicated .22LR gun or buy .22mag ammo, IMO. How many extra sets of eyeballs ya got, anyways?
