Does anyone know anything about these Colt pistols?  Some websites call them the Cadet model but I also read that they had to change the name but I'm not sure why.  I have an opportunity to pick up one in it's original box with magazine and manual all in good condition.  Seller is asking around $300.  Good deal or stay away?

They had to change the name after the first year of production because some other company already had rights to the "cadet" name, so they became the "Colt .22" after that.  They had a short production life anyways, so either name is interchangable to most folks.

It's guts are actually a High Standard design that never made it to the market before the East Hartford HS factory closed down.  The design currently lives in the Beretta NEOS, after Colt was done with the design.  In fact, mags are interchangable.

It is a very good gun.  Well built, very nice ergos, decent trigger, natural pointing, and well balanced.  It came in 4" and 6" varieties.  The 6" variety came with a factory scope rail on the top of the barrel assembly.

Colt did not make much on the gun.  They did most of the final assembly though.  Most of the parts were contracted out.  Parts are out there if you need them.

Overall, it is a good gun and you should enjoy shooting it.  $300 is a steal.  These guns usually sell for $400 or so.

Thanks for the info!  It's actually my Grandpa's gun and he's selling off some of his collection.  I'll definitely be buying it!

Picked it up today and took it to the range.  Great little gun I'm more than happy with it.  Only problem was the screw holding the rear sight kept backing out and I almost lost it a couple times.  I put a drop of blue loctite on it when I got home so it should stay in there now.

Most likely will do the trick just fine

Glad to hear you are enjoying it.  They are a neat gun.  I always try to buy one, but have to change priorities at the last minute (usually due to other guns).

$300?!?!

I got mine for $175 NIB....course that was back in '97 or so.

I absolutely love mine!
I lucked into a target barrel upgrade kit quite a few years ago.
