I know this is probably discussed allot on here.
I have kinda narrowed it down to 3 options. Colt Diamondback, 4" - Love this gun, so classy looking and has the "old school" look to it. May be afraid to shot it allot though cause of the value. Smith & Wesson 617, 4" - Like this gun allot to, very sexy looking. Wouldn't be afraid to shot this one allot cause its a new-manufacture pistol. Ruger Single Six or Single 10 - Love the old single action revolvers, and the 22WMR option would be nice to have. Only problem though is slow reload for when I'm plinking. So what does the hive think? I think the 617 would be the best "bang for the buck", as it is a high quality firearm, fast to reload, and I would not be afraid to shoot it allot. EDIT: Gun will be used for casual plinking, not competition or anything. Also, I know about the older Smith & Wesson model 48's 18's (typo), but I really like the full underlug on the 617 better. |

I have an older model 63 kit gun. Not a match gun by any means but a nice carry revolver; 4" 6 shot on a J frame. I think the K frame would be a better plinking and target gun.
If you can find a diamondback for reasonable buy it. I see one here on the local boards for $1200. No f'n way for me. My ruger convertible single six is kind of sucky accuracy wise. On rimfire central they say they made the barrels for them looser for the .22 magnum rounds which kind of makes sense but for a guy only shooting .22 lr it sucks ass. i even put the lighter spring set in for a better trigger pull and it still sucks. |

Funny you say that about the Single Six. I emailed Ruger about that yesterday, asking if the Single Ten (22LR only) has a 22LR barrel or if it is the same oversized one off the Single Six. Have yet to hear back. I did notice on the Ruger page that the twist is listed as the same between the two, 1:14" |
| I voted for the S&W 617. If all you want in a plinker and you're not into droping the cash on the Colt, the S&W is the most bang for the buck. I have a well used 22lr Diamondback, and the only part of the pistol that really shows wear is the front face of the cylinder. The previous owner included repair paperwork from Colt detailing a bullet shaving issue that was corrected, and a rough round count on the pistol. Unless you carry a gun a lot or subject the finnish to a lot of rubbing, a high round revolver can still look like a 90%+ gun. |
