I have a chance to buy a Colt .22 Target pistol from a buddy.
I know absolutely nothing about it and actually never even knew they existed. Anyone have any experience with it? Here's a pic I found on google http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2019/5754842141_8596e94f63_z.jpg The one he's selling also has a 4in barrel along with the 6in, 4 mags, an NCStar red dot, and a generic hardcase. He wants $250, but I might be able to talk him down some. |

Could you specify the reason(s)? Lack of sales & lack of perceived value by the shooting public led to the gun's demise. I've seen some of these at gun shows & as much as we love .22's, hardly anyone would stop to pick up a used one & even bother to look at it. I'm not a Colt expert by any means, but seems like I recall something about Colt not being the actual maker of these .22's? Someone will be along shortly to fill in that info, IMO. My .o2 |

Ah, so it wasn't because it was a huge piece of crap? Thanks for the info. I did a little more research on it and it actually seems like most of the people that own them like them. Only real negatives I found were that the mag release was inconveniently located and it was finicky with ammo. There's a lot of praise for the accuracy and its trigger. It was made in the mid '90s, I'm guessing as Colt's answer to Ruger's 22/45. I couldn't find out if Colt actually made it or not. I think if i can talk him down to $200, I just might take it. |

People expected it to be like a Colt Woodsman target model at a price of around $200. When it wasn't, people didn't run out and buy it in droves.
One of Colts biggest problems is that anything they make [say a new snub revolver] will be judged against what they made 50 years ago and while it may work perfectly fine, it'll get hammered on the lack of craftsmanship and hand fitting as measured against the old one that was fitted by hand by skilled craftsmen. |

Mags can be hard to get, and I prefer adjustable sights. For $200-250, it's a pretty good value. I have pretty much the exact setup the OP is talking about, even down to the surprisingly not so crappy NCStar red dot (at least on a .22). I agree the mag release sucks, if the pistol is holstered any movement will release the mag. Only ammo problems I've had are with CCI stingers, numerous FTEs. Does well with bulk pack stuff. It is very accurate and has the sweetest trigger I've ever felt and the grip seems like it was tailored just for me. Although, I am mainly a Ruger man so that might not be saying much. The 6in Target model has adjustable sights, but the 4in doesn't. Also the 4in doesn't have a built in mount for an optic like the 6in does. From what I've heard, Beretta acquired the basic design for their Neos. And that the Neos magazines will work in the Colt. I haven't tried that out though. I've also had a Ruger 22/45, but the Colt "felt" better to me. I got mine (4in) for $175, $60 for the 6in Target kit, $30 for 2 more mags, $30 for the optic. All brand new. So if you can get it for $200 it would be a decent deal. Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Ignorant posters are ignorant
If you get both barrels, that is a $400 to$600 package. It is no 41 or match target, but it is a great little gun. Essentially the it is the beretta neos, which is also based on a nascent high standard design that never got off the ground. Colt sent out a lot more of The subassemblies than other guns but they still assembled them. If I am ot mistaken, they used the same manufacturers as many other us firearm companies. It's commercial success is a poor measure of it's value or utility. It is a good gun. Mags are also on sale at conn right now. Like all colts, no interest until they are discontinued, then everyone wants it. Very natural gun to hold and shoot. For $250 you owe your buddy a case of beer in the deal |
