Went out and shot my new GSG 1911 the other day with 400rds down the pipe and 100% got reliability. Ammo shot was 500rd bulk pack Federal 36gr. HV rounds using 3 different GSG mags.

I added a Nighthawk custom MSH/magwell which added a little more weight and got rid of the magazine safety. I also replaced the grip screw bushing with standard 1911 bushings since the stock screws are smaller than normal so now any grip AND any grip screws can work. Grips are AlumaGrips which I added since they are heavier and now bring the GSG 1911 closer to a standard 1911 weight. I added some Kimber bumper pads because of the magwell I put on.All I did was line up the pad's center hole with the take down hole on the stock GSG mag and use a small circuit board finger drill to drill the 2 holes and put in 2 small screws which are in there rock solid tight and does not affect the mag spring or stock base plate. All the parts added were sitting in my parts box already on hand.

Seems like all lower parts can interchange with all standard 1911 lower parts. The upper is a different story obviously but I have no reason to change anything on the slide.

Accuracy was very good and I neglected to take pictures of the target since I was having so much fun shooting this great pistol!

The GSG 1911 is a very well made pistol and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone looking to get a 22lr for cheap practice or fun.

I posted this in the handguns section and if any moderators want to delete it by all means do so. I think it will get more attention here.

82 views, no responses. Hmmm. Either there is no interest in a 22lr or its the brand itself. Let me tell you guys, this is not a 22lr that will be a jam-o-matic like some of the other 22lr 1911s or the conversion kits.

Let me add that this 22lr is above in quality of the other 22lr 1911s out there right now. The sights are Novak cut and it comes with 3 different sized front sights. The slide holds open on the last shot every time. This would make a great trainer for people first getting into 1911s to learn controls and feel. As a plinker its tops for any 1911 fan out there. My mods where not to make the gun better but to make it more like most of my other full size 1911s. Shooting 550rds for $15 is a plus as well and even though it does not have the kick of a 45acp its still a very useful gun for the recoil sensitive, plinking, cheap practice or just having fun.

ETA: I put this in the 1911 section instead of the Rimfire section since 100% of frame parts of a standard 1911 will fit so its no less a 1911 than a Springfield with a conversion kit.

I wondered how those would run.  1911 in 22lr are a blast to shoot, I might have to look into getting one of these.

so what did it run you out the door $$$ without any of the mods?

Out the door was $375. Not bad considering its a dedicated 22lr 1911. All the add-ons I already had on hand in a parts box.

I picked up one of these a few weeks back when it was on sale at TGS. Best $280 I've spent on a gun. I burned through a box of 525 Federal Bulk with no issues other than one misfeed. Sadly it runs better than my Springfield Loaded . A fun gun for sure!

The thumbs safety broke (pot metal I presume) when removing, but I never liked it as the cut of the lever was uncomfortable. So I bought a cheap MIM thumb safety and fit it to the gun, no problem. The plunger spring is a little weaker, but I think that can be changed without issue. I too swapped to a flat MSH and removed the mag safety junk.

Magazines are expensive, but I picked up 4 extras just so I can have more of a continuous string of shots

Did your's shoot high by any chance? I had to swap to the tallest front sight to get the groups relatively center.

$375 isn't bad at all.

I spent $309+tax on my Kimber conversion kit 2 years ago. Not to mention the additional $ for 6 more mags. Got expensive quickly!

EDIT: What's the recoil system like? Kimber has a weird system that I've been thinking about messing with so I can just put a GI plug and a spring in.

Are the mags metal?   How many does it come with?

It comes with one mag made of thick plastic and metal, but they are very well built and solid....more than you might think.

It shot to point of aim after drifting the rear sight a little with the supplied allen wrench so there was no need for the additional front sights they provide.

Stole these pictures from another forum of the internals. Thanks to the poster of the other forum if your reading this and I give you credit for them 100%.

I wouldn't change the recoil set-up since the fatter rear part of the guide rod is heavy and contributes to the weight and I don't think a standard GI set-up would work because of the way it mates up to the barrel lug.

BTW, it does have an 80- series FPS.
