I allready have some Duracoat tactical flat black & coyote brown on the way. I have used Duracoat in the past and am happy with it. Now where I am looking for input is color choice, I know the slide and controlls will all be done in the black. I kinda want to do the frame in the coyote brown but I am on the fence about it. Anyone got any pics of a 1911 finished like that? Feel free to make any points (pro or can for either choice) to help me make my mind up also. BTW the gun is a Kimber Raptor. I know the stock grips will look good with the all black but doubt they would on a tan frame so I would be in the market for some new ones, if I go that route.

Is your gun that bad or do you just want to refinish for the hell of it?

The Raptor is beautiful as it is, don't ruin that.  You should keep the factory grips on it as well since they are only made for the Raptor.

Yea, leave it alone. I know it's always tough to resist the urge to modify a new gun. I wanted to do the same with my SA Loaded when I got it in March. Just spend the $200+ you spend on refinishing it on ammo.

Then when you have the wear on it then refinish it that is just MHO.

I agree with this.

Go and shoot the shit out of that thing and wear it down faster.  Then you can refinish it however you like.  It will also give you more time to decide on exactly what colors you want.

Cell phone pic.

Before pic for referance..

I went ahead and put it back together early. Only thing it did was damaged the finish on the rear sight from the 3 licks with the brass punch Looks like I have a little touching up to do.

It's been my experience that any type of paint on a gun doesn't hold up as well as traditional bluing.

Maybe I just like the matte black better (I'm a sucker for parkerizing), but I don't mind the new version at all.

Besides, I've found bluing to be slightly more durable than permanent marker so I'm not usually a fan.

I like the high-polish blue finish more, but it turned out well.  Congrats.  If nothing else, you now have a one of a kind Raptor.

I did like it blued also but I like it better now. As someone else said "to each his own" right? Only problem is now I have a bunch of Duracoat left sooooo what will I do next When I was doing it I was eyeing my DeWalt drill & impact driver, maby some tools will get the treatment in the near future
