I have a 1911 pistol which already has a checkered front strap (20 lpi), but I am considering getting an undercut trigger guard. How difficult would it be to extend the existing checkering higher up the front strap, and all the way to the bottom of the front strap as well (the existing checkering stops just short of the cut out slot on the bottom of the front strap)?

I am sure any good pistolsmith familiar with 1911's could do this.

Springfield's Custom Shop could undercut the trigger guard and extend the 20LPI checkering as long as you pay for the hand cut and not the machine cut.

Do they perform work on non-Springfield pistols (this is a Colt)?

From what I can tell they have a policy similar to Wilson. They will work on any 1911 regardless of maker so long as its a quality piece.

If the frontstrap were high-cut and flattened, the checkering could be extended.

Thanks, that's good to know. I'll have to call Deb Else on Monday...
