I am starting to research a 1911 for Concealed Carry.
I want to buy new in approx the 1000 range.  I plan on keeping this gun for a while so I want to shoot a few of them.

So far Kimber and Para have some good choices in a 3.5-4" barrell
Any suggestions on what else I should be looking at?

Thanks

In that order.

What is your price range?

My Kimber UCII has been flawless.  I got lots of free ammo from my friend who's Defender wouldn't feed it.  If going to a fullsize, I am a big fan of the Colt Combat Elite but haven't used any JHPs in it yet.

a little over $1000 but the Dan Wesson Valor Bobtail (V-Bob)(4.25" bbl) is a very nice choice.

I used to say 3" 1911's were not reliable......

then  STI built this....

mine runs like a champ.

1000 bucks give or take.
I want to keep the gun for a long time, so I am willing to spend a few extra bucks for the right gun.
Why do you like springfield better than Kimber

That's been my opinion as well on 3".
(When I bought a 9mm I stayed away from the subcompacts)

I'd change my mind if I found one that I shot well, but the extra 1" seems to make the gun more stable and easier to sight.

Warranty and reputation.

Springfield's is a Lifetime warranty, Kimber's is a year. Springfield seems to have a better rep for their small parts, whereas Kimber has converted MANY people to Glocks over the last 10-15 years.

This is my 1911 carry gun.  Dan Wesson CBOB.  It's a little heavy, but other than that it's great!

I love carrying my DW Vbob but they are slightly more than you're looking to spend.

My Defender was a bit under $750 new, I see them for right around $800 in my area nowadays.

I carry a SA Champion. My favorite carry 1911 was a Colt Defender. It never, ever missed a shot. Accurate and easy to shoot. Fed everything I put through it.
Too bad I trusted Gander Mountain with it

I'm not a fan of the Wessons, but the CBOB is a pretty good choice.
I personally run a Baer TRS...

Good advice.
Didn't know that about the warranty

I'm currenly shooting a Kimber UCII that's has (so far) eat'n everything I've run through it.  I didn't think the 3" would be accurate at least not as accurate as this pistol is.  But it does have a rather snappy recoil and is a little slow to bring back onto target.

When you measure it from end to end it isn't really that much smaller than a G19 but it's thinner through the slide and if you put thin grips on it you can cut a little off the grip width too.

For daily carry, go Springfield Armory.  Great gun, great warranty, great price.

With body sweat, and holster wear, you may not want to carry a $1000 + gun as a daily carry.  I know people will post "how much is your life worth", but the Springfield Armory guns will function when needed, and they will back up their product.
