I purchased a Kimber 1911 with the .22 conversion kit. Is the slide supposed to lock to the rear on the .22 magazine. Apparently both my magazines won't lock to the rear. Are there any suggestions for a fix? When I have the .45 barrel in the pistol, it works fine. Thanks in advance K.

slide won't lock back because it isn't suppose to.  tactical solutions has a kit that will.  i don't know if you pick up some of their magazines if it will lock it back or not.  you could give them a call and ask.

I've been looking for a .22 conversion for my 1911's as well, and the Kimber conversion not having that last round hold open is shying me away a bit. How's the price difference from the Kimber and Tactical Solution kits?

Can be as much as $150 more according to Midway USA.

I have the Kimber kit and rather like it.

Yeah. I did a little search and saw it was about $450. I think I'll just go with the Kimber then. That last shot hold open (the lack thereof) shouldn't be that big of a deal. I guess I'll just learn to count my rounds!

I've actually found it helps with Tap-rack-bang practice that I don't get with the .45 slide

The reason the slide does not lock back on Kimber or Ciener conversion 1911 kits is because the slides are aluminum and the slide catch are steel which will peen the notch in the aluminum frame.  Advantage Arms uses and aluminum slide with a steel insert in the notch so it will lock back on the last round.  I'm not sure if the Tactical Solutions 1911 kit has a last round hold open.  I really like the AA kits but the 1911 kits are very difficult to find.

I recently purchased a Kimber kit and really like it. It is kinda finicky with ammo, but I am just buying cheap bulk. It shoots Federal Auto Match the best with no ftf's or fte's so far with this ammo out of a brick so far.

The Tac Sol slide is steel so it can hold open on the last round. However you have to use one of their magazines to actually have the slide hold open. This is because their mag has a piece of metal that pushes the slide stop up when empty. If you don't use their mag, it still will not hold open and their mags are $50+ each.

I have one and it runs great but I only have one of their mags. I have 3 Kimber mags (much cheaper) and they run fine but obviously will not hold the slide open.
