Title is question, basically.
The gun runs 100% reliably (it is a Springfield Mil-Spec 1911) but I really just can't shoot it worth a darn, never have been able to.  The gun is about 2 years old now.  This past week I shot someone else's Taurus 1911 Clone and was able to shoot that real well.  I can't figure out what is wrong with my gun and/or the combo of me and my gun.

Extractor tension is the only thing I have ever adjusted on the gun (had extraction issues in the very beginning).

Are the sights, trigger and grip different?
Also how bad is barrel lockup on your 1911.

Short answer is no.

A couple things:

What ammo are you using?
Have you attempted shooting from 7 feet and walking it out to 25 yards to see where your accuracy issue lies?
What is inaccurate?  Can you hit an 8" pie plate at 25 yards?  15 yards?
Are you accurate with all other pistols?
Have you had other people who are comfortable with the 1911 platform shoot it to see if is inaccurate for them?

I had a Mil-Spec many moons ago that I had accuracy issues with, I didn't know anything about 1911s at the time so I sold it cheap to a friend, he spent the time to diagnos that it wasn't him or me or the way we shot, but the gun.  He sent the gun to Springfield with 50 rounds of the ammo he generally shot, Springfield did work on the gun (not sure what, but they definitely replaced the barrel bushing) and it's been accurate ever since.  Troubleshoot the issue, see how your groups grow from close range to long range, see if others have the same problem, and maybe send it back to Springfield for a closer look.

all the parts are original to the gun.

the barrel lockup seems to me to be OK.  the slide as a whole has a bit of slop on the rails, but nothing that I would deem excessive and I'm pretty anal/OCD about stuff like that.

even pretty close i feel like i'm terrible with it.  I'm hoping to get to the range this weekend and try some stuff out.  I'm not a tremendous shot with all pistols, but I consider myself competent and pretty decent.  Like I said, even the Taurus 1911 I shot pretty good.

I've considered sending it to springfield, but I'd love to avoid paying overnight shipping for it.

Take the recoil spring and spring plug out of the gun.

Does the barrel bushing wobble in the slide?

Does the barrel wobble in the bushing?

I've bought 5 Springfield's in the last 2 years and 4 of them had rather loose barrel bushings...the other one was a bull barrel.

Call, or send an email, to Springfield and they'll more than likely send you a shipping label to send the gun in for free....if all the above is true.

I love Springfield and would be the first company I would look to in the lower price range. But I must admit, accuracy is not their strong suit. Ive been told that from the Loadeds on down that so long as it shoots a 6" group from a good rest at 25yds it meets Springfields specs.

That said, has anyone else shot your gun? How did they do with it? The Taurus Im guessing has slightly better sights and the high ride beavertail which should make it more comfortable to shoot. That might have something to do with it.

yeah, I guess I'd say it does wobble (both the barrel and the bushing) with the spring removed, but not when the assembled pistol is in full battery.  It all seems tight then.  And the wobble is nothing that I deem excessive, but perhaps it doesnt take much and that is the problem.  I'll take it out for yet another range session and if nothing I try gives me repeatable results, I'll send Springfield an email.
