Got to the range yesterday with my Colt XSE Rail Gun.

Things I changed on it before firing was the plastic MSH with a stainless S&A, the thumb safety was replaced with a Caspian that uses a modified hammer pin that goes into a groove, square pin and tab to keep the opposite safety on and is rock solid and some Alumgrips. The Caspian was very easy to fit for anyone looking for a quality ambi thumb safety.

Reason for changing the MSH was I didn't like the plastic and wanted a magwell anyway, the safety was done so I would have no issues from the more standard ambi safeties which in this case when I took out the right side grip to clean, the Colt safety instantly fell out.

The stock grips are beautiful looking but I wanted something slightly different. I'll probably use the Colt grips on some later project one day.

Shot 300rds of various ammo through the Colt all in 230gr. 200rds of Remington UMC, Winchester and Federal ball, 25 rounds of HST and another 25 of HST +P, 25 Winchester PDX-1 and 25 Remington UMC HP.

Mags used were the stock Colt 8rd, 4- 8rd Wilson Combat Elite, 2 -8rd Wilson Combat 47D, 6 - 8rd McCormick imitation mags, 2 - 8rd Wolff ACT mags, 2 regular 8rd ACT mags and 1 Early WWII Colt 7rd.

Accuracy was excellent and will post the pictures of the targets later.

100% reliability with all mags and ammo. Brought it home cleaned and re-lubed and its still looking great.  A few more range trips and it will be doing nightstand duty.

So are you going to spend that additional $1000 that 'every 1911 needs to be reliable' on hookers and blow, or what?

Probably on ammo and more range time. Since I've never had to spend any extra money to make my 1911s run 100% reliable I have quite a bit of "saved" money. This is my first Colt and I can say I'm very please with it.

Looks like an awesome lead slinger!

If they made one in carbon steel, I don't know if I'd be able to resist, especially at the price point they're selling at now.

Thanks for the comments guys!

I like all my other 1911s and have never had problems with them but something about this one in particular is....I don't know, I can't explain it. It might have front serrations and a rail which many find to be horrific but they both look good to me. Even though its an 80 series I see no problems. I might take out the system in the future and install a TJ Customs plate. If I do I'm not worried about the lawyers and all that stuff. The only thing the 80 series does is to make it drop safe so in a defensive situation if done on purpose, the 80 series is irrelevant. I noticed also that the firing pin return spring is shorter than normal due to the 80 parts making a longer spring unnecessary also so that would need replacing as well. I did the same to my Taurus PT1911AR and no big deal.

All in all nothing else is being changed for now though.

Well I used the Elite and 47D mags with no problems and would suggest either for anyone looking for a quality 8rd 1911 mag.

I'm happy with my CRG...now.

I haven't heard anyone else mention this but mine shot 6" low at 25 yds. I replaced the stock front sight with with a Wilson .160 tritium and it's gtg. The Colt's dovetail is cut closer to the muzzle and the Wilson sight had to be trimmed and profiled.

The trigger was sloppy vertically and horizontally so I replaced it with a C&S solid adjustable.

The ambi safety was really sloppy so I replaced it with a C&S low profile piece.

TJ's plate and flat checkered msh completed the parts replacement for me. I may lighten the trigger pull after a few more rounds down the pipe.

I've never had a problem with the Series 80 system, so I'm not going to dick with it.

Defiantly post a range report and with what type of mags and ammo you use.  I look forward to it since finding Rail Gun reports a far and few between.

i personally own the 1070 xse stainless (no rail).

i had an older model, with the duckbill grip safety, so i ended up changing it to the wilson combat drop in colt safety (for the commander frame- its the right one, even for the 5" 1070.)

also put on the wilson combat ambi, and wilson combat steel checkered msh.

i topped it off with novak night sights, and i did a very mild carry bevel myself (very proud of it- not too difficult either, surprisingly.)

-is the rail gun sharp enough to cut paper with out of the box?  mine was -to the point i drew blood at the first range session!

anyway- i like the new colts!   id probably buy one with the rail next, and trick it out accordingly!

I don't know about beltfed, but for me, there's more to wanting a carbon steel version than the color.

Seem to remember,...  someone bearing your avatar name ranting about Colt, health care, Obama, and UAW ? Or was it IAW ? Anyway, this person who obviously must have hacked his way to using your avatar,  swore. At least, admonished anyone for buying a new Colt and ringing praise for..... Les Baer, was it ? Or Ed Brown ? Neither one being in Colt's price or quality class. Tried to post that tied your avatar to these post - election rants. It seems to have been buried or maybe some conspiracy that's released it's self from your avatar. I'm waiting for the black version too.

Dont worry, Springfields Custom Shop can grind the rollmarks off.

That's kinda extreme just to remove the Imbel Brazil rollmarks.

Posted my range review for my Colt Rail Gun a few months back––I'm also extremely pleased with it.  It's a fantastic shooter, and it has not yet malfunctioned on me after many hundreds of rounds––and the last ~270 or so of those without cleaning.  I've never owned a pistol that didn't hiccup at least occasionally, and I'm tickled pink that the Colt has proven so dependable.  While it's still not as scary accurate as my GP100, it's a damned fine shooter and more than capable of putting rapid hits on a man-sized target at ranges appropriate to a pistol.

I commend your choice of pistols, sir.

Thanks for the replies and others that own one! cockednlocked1911: No sharp edges on this model. I also read of the razor sharp edges of the XSE and figured I'd get that as well. Every single edge is smooth to the touch.
